CVE-2020-22253

About

Xiongmai Technology Co devices AHB7008T-MH-V2, AHB7804R-ELS, AHB7804R-MH-V2, AHB7808R-MS-V2, AHB7808R-MS, AHB7808T-MS-V2, AHB7804R-LMS, and HI3518E_50H10L_S39 were all discovered to have port 9530 open which allows unauthenticated attackers to make arbitrary Telnet connections with the victim device.

Rainforest analyst review

Across a range of Xiongmai DVR and surveillance devices, port 9530 sits open and lets an unauthenticated attacker open arbitrary Telnet connections to the device. In effect it's a backdoor-shaped exposure: reach the port, get an interactive path onto the box, no credentials required.

This is textbook botnet fuel. Cheap networked video devices are exactly what Mirai-class malware sweeps the internet for, and an unauthenticated path to device control at scale is the whole business model of those operations. Once on the device, the attacker has a foothold for further scanning, DDoS conscription, or lateral movement.

Our focus is reachability of that port and the sprawl problem these devices represent. They get deployed by the dozen, tracked by no one, and left facing the internet. The work is finding where port 9530 is exposed across affected models, then segmenting or blocking it, because inventory is the hard part, not understanding the bug.
