Personal data we collect
Rainforest collects your data through our interactions and product usage. You provide some of these data directly, while some of them we get automatically by collecting data about your interactions, use, and experience with our products. The data we collect depends on the context of your interactions with Rainforest and the options you pick, including your privacy settings, products, and resources you use. We also get third-party data.
There are options when dealing with the technology you use and the data you share. You can refuse to share personal data. Likewise, when we need to collect personal data required by law, or to make a contract with you, and you don't provide the data, it won't be possible to do it; or, if this relates to an existing product you are using, we may have to suspend or cancel it. You will be notified if that's the case at the time. Where providing data is optional and you choose not to share personal data, resources that use those data — such as personalization — won't work for you.
How we use personal data
Rainforest uses collected data to provide sophisticated and interactive experiences. Specifically, we use data to:
- Offer our products, including updates, security, and troubleshooting, as well as support. This also includes data sharing, when needed, to provide the service or process transactions you order.
- Improve and develop our products.
- Customize our products and make recommendations.
- Advertise and market to you, including sending promotional communications, targeting advertisements, and presenting offers relevant to you.
- Operate our business, including analyzing our performance, meeting our legal obligations, developing our workforce, and conducting research.
In carrying out these tasks, we combine data we collect from different contexts (e.g. from your use of the Rainforest platform) or that we obtain from third parties to provide you with a better, more consistent and personalized experience, to make informed business decisions, and for other legitimate purposes.
Our personal data processing for these purposes includes both automatic and manual methods of processing. Our automated methods are often related to our manual methods. For example, our automated methods include AI (artificial intelligence) — a set of technologies that allow computers to discover, know, detect and aid decision-making to solve problems in a similar way as people do. In order to compile, train and improve the accuracy of our automated processing methods (including AI), we manually review some of the predictions and inferences generated by the automated methods against the underlying data on which they are based. These manual reviews can be conducted by Rainforest employees or by suppliers working on behalf of Rainforest.
Reasons why we share personal data
We share your personal data with your consent, to complete transactions, or to provide a specific or authorized product. We can also share data with affiliates or subsidiaries controlled by Rainforest, with authorized suppliers, when required by law, or to respond to legal processes, to protect our customers, protect lives, keep our products safe, and protect the rights or properties of Rainforest and its customers.
How to access and manage your personal data
You can make choices about our data collection and your data use by Rainforest. You can control your personal data obtained by Rainforest and exercise your data protection rights by contacting Rainforest. In some cases, your ability to access or control your personal data can be limited, as required or permitted by applicable law. The access or control of your personal data also depends on the product used. For example, you can:
- Control Rainforest's use of your data for interest-based advertising by visiting our website and clicking the Privacy icon.
- Choose whether to receive emails, SMS, WhatsApp messages, or phone calls from Rainforest.
- Access and clear some of your data through the privacy icon on the Rainforest site.
Not all personal data processed by Rainforest can be accessed or controlled by the tools above. If you want to access or control those data you can contact us at [email protected], or submit a request through our Remove my Data form.
