CVE-2023-35078

About

An authentication bypass vulnerability in Ivanti EPMM allows unauthorized users to access restricted functionality or resources of the application without proper authentication.

Weakness (CWE):CWE-287

Rainforest analyst review

Ivanti Endpoint Manager Mobile, formerly MobileIron Core, contains an authentication-bypass flaw that lets an unauthenticated attacker reach API paths that should require a valid session. By requesting the right endpoints directly, the attacker accesses restricted functionality, including users' personal data and configuration, and can create or modify administrative accounts, effectively handing over control of the mobile-management platform without any credentials.

EPMM is the server that provisions, configures, and holds inventory for an organization's phones and tablets, so it aggregates sensitive data and the ability to push settings and apps to every enrolled device. That reach is why it was used in intrusions against Norwegian government bodies and quickly added to CISA's KEV list, and it was later chained with CVE-2023-35081 to write web shells. Apply Ivanti's fixed builds without delay. Because exploitation predated public awareness, patching alone is not enough: restrict management access to the internet, hunt for unauthorized admin accounts and web shells, and review API logs for anomalous unauthenticated requests.
