The following products are affected: Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) before build 5.0.1-61, Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) before build 5.1.1-71, Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) before build 5.2.1-69, Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) before build 5.3.1-53, Acronis Cyber Infrastructure (ACI) before build 5.4.4-132.
Rainforest analyst review
Acronis Cyber Infrastructure ships with default passwords on certain accounts, and those credentials are usable remotely. An attacker who knows the built-in defaults — which are, by definition, public — authenticates against an exposed ACI instance and, from that access, runs commands on the system. There is no exploitation cleverness required: it is unchanged shipped credentials on a network-reachable service, which is why it rates as unauthenticated remote command execution in practice.
ACI is hyperconverged storage-and-compute infrastructure, so a compromised node is not a leaf system but part of the platform other workloads and backups depend on, making it a high-leverage target for data theft or destruction. This flaw was added to CISA's KEV catalog on evidence of in-the-wild exploitation, so exposed and un-updated builds should be treated as at active risk. Update to the fixed builds Acronis lists for each branch (through 5.4.4-132), and critically, rotate any account still on a default or shipped password — patching the version does not help if the weak credential remains in place. Keep management interfaces confined to trusted networks.
