CVE-2020-35362
About
DEXT5Upload 2.7.1262310 and earlier is affected by Directory Traversal in handler/dext5handler.jsp. This could allow remote files to be downloaded via a dext5CMD=downloadRequest action with traversal in the fileVirtualPath parameter (the attacker must provide the correct fileOrgName value).
Rainforest analyst review
A directory-traversal flaw in DEXT5Upload's handler lets a remote unauthenticated attacker download arbitrary files by injecting traversal sequences into the fileVirtualPath parameter. Crucially, though, the attacker also has to supply the correct fileOrgName value, so it isn't a blind file grab.
That fileOrgName requirement is a real gate. It means an attacker can't just walk the filesystem indiscriminately; they need to know or guess a valid original filename for each target, which cuts down on the reliability of mass, untargeted exploitation. The impact remains information disclosure, so the payoff is reading files, potentially config or secrets, rather than execution.
We rank this somewhat below a clean unauthenticated traversal precisely because of that precondition, and treat it as an exposure question: where is DEXT5Upload deployed, and is the vulnerable handler reachable from untrusted networks. That reachability determines whether the fileOrgName hurdle is the only thing standing between an attacker and sensitive files.
