In affected versions of Confluence Server and Data Center, an OGNL injection vulnerability exists that would allow an unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a Confluence Server or Data Center instance. The affected versions are from 1.3.0 before 7.4.17, from 7.13.0 before 7.13.7, from 7.14.0 before 7.14.3, from 7.15.0 before 7.15.2, from 7.16.0 before 7.16.4, from 7.17.0 before 7.17.4, and from 7.18.0 before 7.18.1.

An OGNL injection flaw in Confluence Server and Data Center lets an unauthenticated attacker put an Object-Graph Navigation Language expression into a request URL that Confluence then evaluates server-side. Because OGNL expressions can call arbitrary Java, that evaluation becomes arbitrary code execution in the context of the Confluence process, with no login and no user interaction. A single crafted GET request is enough to run commands and drop a web shell.
This was exploited as a zero-day before Atlassian shipped a fix, and mass scanning followed within days of disclosure, so any instance that was internet-facing during that window should be assumed touched, not merely patched. Confluence tends to hold an organization's internal documentation, credentials, and integration secrets, making it a high-value pivot point rather than an isolated app. Upgrade to a fixed release, then hunt: look for unexpected child processes of the web server, newly written JSP/web shell files under the Confluence webroot, and outbound connections from the host. Rotate any credentials or tokens that lived on or were reachable from that server.
