CVE-2022-26258
About
D-Link DIR-820L 1.05B03 was discovered to contain remote command execution (RCE) vulnerability via HTTP POST to get set ccp.
Rainforest analyst review
This is a command-injection flaw in the D-Link DIR-820L router. The device's web management interface exposes a handler that processes an HTTP POST to the ccp/get-set endpoint, and it passes attacker-controlled input into a system command without sanitization. A remote attacker who can reach the web interface sends one crafted POST and runs arbitrary OS commands on the router, unauthenticated, at the privilege level of the web daemon, which on these devices is effectively full control.
The DIR-820L is an inexpensive consumer router that is long out of support, and units remain deployed in homes and small offices with management sometimes reachable from the WAN. That combination, an unpatchable product exposed at the network edge, is precisely what botnet operators like the Mirai lineage automate against, conscripting devices for DDoS and using them as proxies. Because no fixed firmware is coming, the realistic response is to retire the device or, at minimum, ensure remote administration is disabled and the web interface is never exposed to the internet. Treat any WAN-reachable DIR-820L as already compromised.
