CVE-2021-26365

About

Certain size values in firmware binary headers
could trigger out of bounds reads during signature validation, leading to
denial of service or potentially limited leakage of information about
out-of-bounds memory contents.

Weakness (CWE):CWE-125

Rainforest analyst review

Certain size values in AMD firmware binary headers can trigger out-of-bounds reads during signature validation, leading either to denial of service or a limited leak of out-of-bounds memory contents. It's a firmware-layer flaw with a deliberately bounded impact, no code execution claimed.

The practical severity is modest despite the 8.2: the worst realistic outcomes are a crash or a small, constrained information leak, and reaching the signature-validation path with a malformed header is itself a precondition. This isn't a broad remote takeover primitive.

Our angle is firmware inventory across the affected AMD parts, prioritized modestly given the limited impact. We note explicitly that the outcome is DoS or a bounded leak so it isn't over-weighted, and slot it into firmware maintenance rather than urgent response.
