CVE-2024-47028

About

In ffu_flash_pack of ffu.c, there is a possible out of bounds read due to an integer overflow. This could lead to local information disclosure with System execution privileges needed. User interaction is not needed for exploitation.

Weakness (CWE):CWE-190CWE-125

Rainforest analyst review

An integer overflow in Android's ffu_flash_pack leads to an out-of-bounds read, disclosing a small amount of memory. The catch is the privilege bar: it needs System-level execution to reach, and even then the payoff is a local information leak, not code execution or a privilege gain. That combination is why this sits at the low end of the scale.

Something that already requires System privileges to trigger isn't an entry point; it's a marginal capability for an actor who has effectively already won at that layer. Its realistic use is as a minor primitive within a chain — leaking a bit of memory to help defeat a mitigation — rather than as a bug anyone attacks a device with directly.

We rank this well down the batch and treat it as routine Android patch coverage. There's no exposure to map and nothing to virtually patch; it simply rides in on the monthly security update. The only reason to give it any attention is completeness of fleet patching, since its value to an attacker is contingent on holding privileges that already represent a serious compromise.
