CVE-2024-57726

About

SimpleHelp remote support software v5.5.7 and before has a vulnerability that allows low-privileges technicians to create API keys with excessive permissions. These API keys can be used to escalate privileges to the server admin role.

Weakness (CWE):CWE-862

Rainforest analyst review

SimpleHelp fails to enforce proper authorization when technicians generate API keys, so a low-privileged technician account can create a key that carries far more permission than the role should allow. That over-privileged key is then used to escalate straight to the server administrator role, giving an attacker who holds even a minor technician login full control of the SimpleHelp server.

This was one of a chain of SimpleHelp flaws — alongside a path traversal (CVE-2024-57727) and a further privilege issue — exploited in early 2025, including by ransomware operators, to reach the downstream customer endpoints that a remote-support platform manages. Support and RMM servers are exactly the high-value pivots attackers seek, since one compromise fans out to many machines. Upgrade to a fixed SimpleHelp release, rotate any API keys and administrative credentials that could have been minted or exposed, and review connected endpoints for actions taken through the server.
